I am completely fascinated by your lunchbox posts and you are inspiring me to try some of these out, as I have 2 preschoolers of my own. I am extremely intrigued by your use of peppers (especially when you leave them whole.) Does your preschooler just eat them like that? I can't even begin to think that mine would try just eating a pepper like an apple! (I am willing to try, but I am totally impressed by your child's palate! Not sure how that would go over at our house!)
Secondly, how do their caretakers/teachers react to these lunches? I am sure their reaction is priceless.
Lastly, do you ever have issues with leaving things unpeeled (for example, the clementines.) I am quite sure my own kids could not peel their own fruit, lol. Maybe I am underestimating them, but really I am mostly just impressed by you and your own family's eating habits!
Keep the pics coming, I am slowly coming around! (And thinking of giving bento/laptop lunchboxes instead of Easter baskets this year).
Hi, Anonymous! We are blessed; my 5 year old has a fairly broad palate. She still leaves the occasional thing uneaten - and she declares her distaste for egg yolks (ack!) and ginger (eek!), but frequently eats these when she isn't aware that they are involved. (Yea, momma's a little sneaky!) The little peppers that she eats whole are very sweet and very mild.
The preschool teachers are probably at best bemused, at worst think that my daughter is being raised by health nuts. ;-)
The Clementines my daughter peels herself. I noticed that a lot of her peers started peeling their own Clementines around 3 or 4 years old. Toss one to your little ones and see what they're capable of! Another option is to use your thumb to poke the little hole in the top of the Clementine without unpeeling it all the way, so your kiddoes at least have a little kick start.
I wish you all the best as you tinker with your family's lunchboxes! :-D
