Lunchbox #126


Today, my preschooler's lunch featured (clockwise):
  • Strips of leftover roast chicken, with mustard for dipping
  • Kerrygold cheese (see the bento minicutters that made these cheese flowers here)
  • PaleoKrunch
  • Asparagus spears with a good dose of pastured butter

  1. I really enjoy seeing all of the lunches that you prepare for your family - the photos are beautiful, and I just love the simplicity of it! As a mother of a 3 year old, I am curious about how your children have responded to this diet. My daughter tends to be rather resistant to trying new things, and you seem to have gotten your preschooler to eat a variety of really healthy food. I'd love to hear about how it's worked for you.

    I'm glad you've found useful stuff at Primal Kitchen. :)

    My daughter has always been fairly adventuresome palate-wise. Occasionally she will decide that she doesn't like something in particular (the current culprit is chunks of ginger), so I sidestep that for a while before reintroducing. Another useful tactic I have is the "These foods are [breakfast, lunch, dinner], and if you don't want to eat them, you can wait until I'm ready to fix the next meal." Of course, this works in our case because a) my daughter is in no danger of starving, and b) she's learned through experience that I'm serious about that statement, which usually leads her to try what's been served.

    That said, on occasion she doesn't want to eat something, and I avoid forcing her to eat - I just remember for future reference so that I don't waste the same food on her.
